This academic year, we are back with our monthly series of open seminars FOR ALL, to be held at the Faculty of Theology of the Nicolaus Copernicus University (UMK) in Toruń.
The first seminar was chaired by Prof. Stanisław Karpiński, PhD (SGGW). The full title of the speech was: ‘Holes in the theory of evolution? On the latest discoveries from the life of intelligent organisms’.
In the colloquial understanding, evolutionism boils down to what Charles Darwin and his successors, who are today referred to as neo-Darwinists, said. However, modern scholars are well aware that evolutionism is a broad set of views, claims and more or less detailed theories.
Increasingly, scholars are pointing out that neo-Darwinism is no longer supported by the available empirical data, and therefore point to explanations proposed within evolutionary developmental biology, the extended evolutionary synthesis or the theory of intelligent design applied to biological structures, among others.
