The Dicasteries – for the Doctrine of the Faith and for Culture and Education – published a note ‘Antiqua et Nova’ on 28.01.2025 on the relationship between artificial intelligence and human intelligence.
The document emphasises that artificial intelligence should be used as a tool to complement human intelligence, not to replace its richness. It draws attention to the ethical and anthropological aspects of AI, stressing that while human intelligence is realised in relationships and shaped by God, artificial intelligence lacks the capacity to evolve in this sense.
The paper also warns of the dangers of AI, such as exacerbating social inequalities or the risk of misinformation. It encourages the responsible development of technology that serves the common good and integral human development.
